Denouement
The final resolution of a narrative, where loose ends are settled after the climax.
The denouement, French for the unknotting, follows the climax and ties up the story’s threads. Writers use it to reveal consequences, restore order, or leave a lasting impression. It may resolve everything neatly or close with deliberate ambiguity.
Example
The denouement delivers the crushing reveal that the lost necklace was fake, recasting Mathilde’s years of toil in a single final stroke.
