  3. A man in the road With a hidden piece of mirror she sees a man watching from the road, and she is told to wave him away.
  4. Hair in the drawer She opens a locked drawer and finds a coil of hair exactly like the one she cut off.
  5. The forbidden wing She slips into the locked wing, sees a shadow behind a barred door, and Rucastle threatens to throw her to the mastiff.
  6. An empty room Holmes and Watson break down the barred door and find the room empty and the skylight open.
  7. The mastiff’s master Rucastle rushes off for the starving mastiff, but the dog seizes him instead, and Watson shoots it.
